On Saturday 31st October, Irish Community Services had the pleasure of hosting our ‘Chit Chat Café’ at the Royal Arsenal Farmers Market in Woolwich. We were so delighted to be able offer members of our community a hot drink and treat, but more importantly, a safe, open space to sit, chat, catch up and simply enjoy one another’s company.
It would not be England if rain didn’t catch us! But that was no worry at all, through the sunny morning and wet afternoon, everyone had a lovely time and enjoyed themselves with some seeing people they hadn’t seen in months and others making new friends.
Our stall also caught the attention of passers-by who joined us for a chat, feeling very welcome and applauding us for our ‘Irish hospitality’! We were so grateful to be able to unite our community just in the nick of time before the tighter restrictions were enforced.
As we say time and time again, the people are at the centre of everything we do therefore we are so glad that everyone who attended enjoyed themselves; one client even described the day as the “highlight of my year”. Seeing everyone come out- even when it started raining- was truly heart-warming and we were incredibly honoured to provide a space for our community to socialise.
On behalf of the whole ICS team, thank you to the wonderful volunteers who contributed greatly throughout the day, to the Royal Arsenal Farmers market for having us and to all of you that came down, supported us and made donations.
We hope to be back with another Christmas edition of the Chit Chat Café for you all in December so keep an ear out for any announcements coming soon!
