Have a fang-tastic Halloween

You don’t need me to tell you that- like everything else this year- Halloween 2020 is obviously going to be different than usual. But if this year has shown us anything, it’s that we are resilient, adaptable and can do almost anything on Zoom. From making sweet treats to getting together online, there are plenty of ways to enjoy Halloween pandemic-style.

Get your baking apron and get creative!

It is safe to say that we have had more than enough tricks this year so let’s focus on treats; here is a super quick and easy recipe for Dracula Dentures:

· A can of vanilla frosting

· Red food colouring

· Mini marshmallows

· Slivered almonds

· Cookie dough OR to speed things up, grab 2 packs of your local supermarket’s freshly baked cookies

Directions:

If you’re baking your cookies yourself:

Preheat oven to 180° Celsius. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll cookie dough into 1 ½” balls and spread out on baking sheets. Bake for about 12 minutes. Let cool completely then cut in half.

For those using the ready-made cookies:

Just cut them in half!

Next, add a couple drops of red food colouring into vanilla frosting and stir it in until you’ve reached a smooth consistency. Spread a thin layer of red frosting onto each cookie half.

Finally, place the mini marshmallows around the round edges of one of the cookie halves. Place the remaining halves on top, then stick a slivered almond on each side to create fangs and voila!

Halloween fun from your sofa!

Zombie (Zoom)

If you can win a game of Zombie, then you know you have your life together. Gather some friends on Zoom and play!

There is a list of actions of things like “locked yourself out”, “forgotten to pick up the kids”, “put something that wasn’t food in the fridge” etc. If you have ever ‘mindlessly’ (like a zombie, get it?) done the action called out, then you must blackout your screen. The last player standing wins!

If we’re being honest, most of us have done a lot of these at least once in our lives so, to make it more competitive, you might want to add a window, for example, who has done this action since the start of lockdown or in the last month?

Podcasts and documentaries

If you’re after something a bit more chilling, why not up the ante and deal with real life horrors? This Halloween listen to a true crime podcast and hear a real-life, eerie story and you can even pause it to try to solve the mystery yourself or with a group! Here’s a few crime podcasts that come highly recommended:

· Redhanded

· Missing & Murdered

· Once Upon a Crime

Alternatively, if you’d prefer something to watch, check out Haunted on Netflix which examines people’s real horrific experiences from the supernatural to serial killers and everything in between.

These options are definitely something for the hardcore Halloween aficionados genuinely looking for a fright so, perhaps not one to do with the babies or grandbabies.

If you decide to give any of these ideas a go, be sure to take some pics and send them over to us and let us know how it went. Or if you celebrated differently, let us know how! Tweet us
